This kitchen renovation in Montclair, New Jersey was designed to feel both refined and highly livable, balancing modern sensibility with a sense of warmth and familiarity. The goal was to create a space that feels intentional and elevated while remaining deeply functional for everyday life.

Working within the existing architecture, we approached the design with a focus on proportion, materiality, and flow. Clean-lined cabinetry establishes a strong foundation, while subtle detailing and carefully selected finishes introduce depth and character. A cohesive palette of soft neutrals is layered with warmer tones to create a kitchen that feels calm, inviting, and timeless.

Particular attention was given to the interplay of textures—combining natural wood elements with stone surfaces and more tailored, architectural details. This balance allows the space to feel grounded while maintaining a refined, modern edge.

Lighting was considered as an integral part of the design, enhancing both the atmosphere and functionality of the kitchen. A mix of ambient and decorative fixtures adds dimension and helps define the space without overwhelming it.

As with all of our projects, the design was guided by how the client lives. The layout was carefully planned to support both daily routines and more social moments, creating a kitchen that feels effortless, cohesive, and enduring.
